The People v. Uwe Boll

February 11, 2011

If you’re a filmmaker who has worked very hard on your projects, but feel that the industry and film community has largely ignored or trashed your contributions to the field, getting shut out of a film festival could be chance to regroup and think about how to reinvent your career and reputation.

Or you could sue the bastards, which director Uwe Boll wants to do.

The Hollywood Reporter says Boll, who has given us such cinematic gems as Alone in the Dark and Alone in the Dark 2, wants to sue the Berlin Film Festival for not accepting his new film, Auschwitz. They claim he didn’t pay the entrance fee so it was never considered, but Boll says other films don’t have to pay this fee and they are shown. The festival countered that those films were invited to participate – I guess Boll’s invitation was lost in the mail.

This seems mostly to be an issue of personal beef with the festival’s director Dieter Kosslick:

“Kosslick has been fighting me for the last 25 years, as Berlin festival director and before, when he was head of (German regional film board) the NRW Filmstiftung,” Boll told THR. “I don’t believe the Berlinale handles all films fairly. Kosslick has his deals with the major studios and invites his old pals from the Filmstiftung days. There isn’t fair competition.”

Whether Kosslick will actually ever touch handcuffs seems unlikely, but then again, I’m not up on German law, maybe there’s a statute Boll can work with on this issue. Or he could create another boxing event to settle the matter.

Somewhere Renny Harlin is wondering why he didn’t think of this first.

Uwe Boll has lost so much of my respect that he’s gained it again. #180

He looks kind of like Oliver Stone.

As my dad likes to say, “But I couldn’t get that job.”

And people said Boll wasn’t creative. I guess he showed us.

I keep hoping Uwe will trow in the towel. Instead of being the worst director of mainstream movies. I think he should just direct soft core porn, and be the best director that genre has to offer.

HAHA. Somehow I think even the likes of Zalman King would be too much for Boll’s meager skill set.

I love the fact that Boll still manages one fairly big name actor and what often appears to be the entire board, minus the center square, of Hollywood Squares. Claire Forlani for the block Tom!

        LOL @ Claire Forlani!!!

“I’m going to disagree with Tara Reid on this one.”
        “Circle gets the square!”

I will still watch whatever hot mess he puts out. A part of me is thrilled that Michael Pare’ and Billy Zane can get jobs somewhere.
