The Piano Has Been Drinking Again: Elton Serves Tough Love to Joel

February 3, 2011

Gossip Cop reports that Billy Joel has a response to Elton John’s recent Rolling Stone interview, where he mentions his touring buddy hasn’t quite done the work when it comes to his own recovery.

When I went to rehab, I had to clean the floors. He goes to rehab where they have TVs…..Billy, you have your demons and you’re not going to get rid of them at rehab light.”  (Rolling Stone)

And what does Billy think about this? In an exclusive to Gossip Cop – the gossip-busting site that may or may not be a product of savvy publicists looking to quash rumors – Joel responded with this:

“I’ve worked with Elton for such a long time and I’ve enjoyed our relationship too much to let something as random as these comments change my affection for him,” says Joel. “Elton is just being Elton.”

Sounds about right, though I keep laughing about that line about cleaning floors v. having TVs.  Though at least Joel never did rehab in his own home.

Oh Elton needs to quit. He’s always dishing out the tough love publicly and when the object least needs the beatdown.

Gossip cop is smells totally like publicists. Once again you’re on top of things, Barry!

Billy Joel might be a drunk, but he’s a classy drunk. Did not see that take-the-high-road-home response coming.

I have to give some props to Mr. Joel too. Or at least his publicist – hang onto her!

Have to say I am unreasonably affection of Mr. Joel myself so I’m gratified to see his classy response! And also, why can’t Elton pick up the phone instead of using magazine interviews as his voicemail.

why can’t Elton pick up the phone instead of using magazine interviews as his voicemail.

Ha! Maybe Billy got a new phone number and didn’t include Elton in the mass text.

Seriously! I love Elton, but he’s one catty, passive aggressive mofo.

Is Rolling Stone even relevant anymore? When was the last time Elton threw down a stone-cold classic track? Pissing contests are for frat boys, Elton. Even Billy knows that!

Indeed, an Elton John interview in Rolling Stone seems like a match made in triassic heaven.

Seriously, pop life. I didn’t realize AARP had a music magazine.

      • February 3, 2011 4:21 pm

Hey, don’t front on AARP, they have amazing circulation numbers – which can’t necessarily be said of Rolling Stone.

        • February 3, 2011 4:38 pm

          LOL! So true.

  4. February 3, 2011 10:41 am

You know a pop star has gone over the relevancy hill when stories about drunken carousing get replaced by rehab confessions (and recommendations).

    We need another Billy…

So if you really love Christmas, come on and let it snow…

Ahhh, I wish our pop singers were like Uncle Billy.

    • February 3, 2011 11:07 am

      Billy knows snow.

Don’t do drugs, kids…become a musician, and they give them to you for free!

And apparently in the case of Elton, they give them babies, too.
