Celebrity Dress Shortage: Drew and Kim

January 19, 2011

Drew Barrymore wore this Malandrino gown last summer and Kim K turned up at the People’s Choice Awards in the same frock. Kim K made some, um, adjustments to the dress and opted to pair it with peeptoe pumps. While I love the idea behind the gown – it’s a gorgeous color and shape – it kind of reminds me of the outfit Charlotte picked out when SATC had that ill-fated field trip to Atlantic City. Though I have to say I much prefer it without the belt, which kills the line of the dress. If you had to have a belt one in a vivid hue would probably be a better choice. That said, it always fascinates me when a dress that is so clearly intricate and pretty photographs so dull. I’m sure the fabric is far more stunning in real life, but as photographed here it looks like fancy 70s era New York apartment wallpaper.

I like it when neither celeb actually makes the outfit work! As seems to be the case here. But dang, that’s a hot dress. Kim is almost making it work, bless her heart.

I like this dress – even though marbly leopard print isn’t usually something I go for. Besides the lack of interesting styling, the fabric also seems to be creating a glare from the camera flash. I like seeing a single, unique outfit/gown be worn by totally different people. It’s like peeping in the windows of an apartment building to see how folks did up the same floorplan.

I like Kim’s shoes. Surprised she opted for restrainst there.
